Pretty much anyone who has known me for more than ten minutes knows that one of the loves of my life is a good cup of coffee. I’ve always liked a nice strong cup cut with a generous portion of creamer. In fact, when I first went vegan, what I would put in my coffee was a big concern. Regular almond milk or soy milk didn’t satisfy me–it was too watery for my tastes.
In my experience, one of the most exciting aspects of going vegan was trying new foods. Luckily during a trip to my local natural foods co-op, I found that there are lots of delicious vegan versions of coffee creamer!
To me, being vegan is not just about discovering things for myself, but sharing them with other people and encouraging them to familiarize themselves with cruelty-free food options. So, I was happy to find vegan creamers at a natural foods co-op, but I wanted to find out if they were available in grocery stores that people all over had access to.
My husband works as an advocate for workers’ rights, so we only shop at union grocery stores. I was so happy to find a variety of creamer options at our local Safeway. At the top of my list was Califia Farms Almondmilk Creamer. Generally, I drink unflavored creamer, but I thought I’d give their hazelnut flavor a try. I liked that it was a little sweet, but not overwhelmingly so like some flavored creamers can be. It’s not as thick as soy creamer, but it’s a nice consistency between that and other plant milks I’ve tried.
In addition to being available at regular grocery stores, Califia Farms Creamer is vegan, gluten-free, kosher, carrageenan-free and non-GMO. A win all around!
Other vegan creamers that I enjoy are Wildwood Soy Milk Creamer and So Delicious Soy or Coconut Milk Creamers. Do you have a favorite that you haven’t seen mentioned here? Please let us know about it in the comments below!
