News from Vegan Outreach

Important: Please Plan Today!

After printing, shipping is our greatest expense. It is least expensive to send boxes of 300 copies of Why Vegan? or Try Vegetarian! right from the printer, via UPS. For smaller orders, it is least expensive to send book rate. However, this takes time.

So please plan ahead for events, leafleting, tables, etc. Adopt a College will soon be in full swing, and the first part of fall term is always the best leafleting opportunity (in terms of weather and student interest). World Vegetarian Day and other national events will be here sooner than you expect.

Please – take time today to look over your calendar for the rest of 2004, and order what you will need. Thanks!

Record Distribution Rate

Earlier this month, Vegan Outreach passed 400,000 copies of Why Vegan?, Try Vegetarian!, and Por Que Vegano? for the year 2004. With AAC growing every week, the distribution rate will continue to increase, and we will soon need to print more booklets. (We also have some exciting new projects in the works.)

If you would like more people to receive a copy of Why Vegan?, please donate today.

Simply put, your donations create more vegetarians. Every little bit helps -- thanks!

Want to House an Activist?

Thanks to everyone who has signed up to be a local contact.

If you would like to host an activist overnight who might be leafleting in your area, please email us with your contact information. We will keep your information on-file, in case someone is traveling in your area in the future.

Leafleting Concerts – Comments and New Opportunity

Jon Camp recently wrote:

"Gave out 300 Why Vegans tonight at the Modest Mouse/ Death Cab For Cutie show in Chicago. I personally think it might have been the single best leafleting session I have ever had. I really think that along with colleges, concerts (attended by youth) are really where it is at. I just knew that this was making a difference tonight."

"Vote for Change" -- a major series of concerts in "swing states" -- might be an opportunity to distribute many thousand booklets to progressive, interested people.

Jon continued:

"Along with dozens of positive comments, I also received my fair share of negative ones. Someone said 'I could never do that,' and I replied, 'Any reduction in animal products means a reduction in animal suffering.' I think comments like that sink in with people.

"I think it is important to emphasize that rude comments are absolutely so much better than apathy. Getting people to show any emotion towards this issue is a great starting point. I think that rude comments, responded to with politeness on our end, are great opportunities for people to see the lack of depth of the meat eating logic. It can be disheartening to hear these comments, but I really think we have to go where people will have strong emotional reactions to the animals' plight."
