Hello folks, I’ve been asked by my friends at Vegan Outreach to review these incredibly delicious new products from Tofurky.

I’m lucky enough to have access to New Seasons market, where there has been a limited release of Tofurky’s new product: Slow Roasted Chick’n, which comes in a variety of flavors: Fajita style, Sesame Garlic, Tandoori, BBQ, Thai Basil and Lightly Seasoned.

Besides the obvious of asking a native Portlander to rush out and buy these products….why ask me?  Yes, I thought that was an excellent question too.  Yeah sure, I’m vegan, so I wouldn’t say no to a Tofurky product, but also why ask a vegan who doesn’t/can’t/won’t cook?  The microwave and rice cooker are my best friends.  I have a busy schedule, and often I need to have dinner made in 15 minutes or less.  The word “potluck” makes me have palpitations.  I can’t cook worth a darn, and I wince with guilt when I hear one of the best ways to change the hearts and minds of non-vegans is to cook them delicious vegan meals.  Despite having nearly 20 vegan cookbooks on my shelf, I have never made a single meal from them.  I don’t have the armamentarium of ingredients (sometimes I don’t recognize the ingredients), and I don’t have the patience to follow the directions…it’s sad, it’s awful, it’s actually debilitating.

So…Tofurky products are a godsend.  They are delicious for one, and they are so easy to prepare.  And these new Slow Roasted Chick’n products are super easy, and so flavorful, that I don’t have to have spices on hand to make them any more tasty.  I was able to prepare a few flavorful dishes with these packaged products.  I didn’t even use the whole pack, and had some leftover for another meal (another bonus).

My dishes were so simple, that I don’t even have to tell you how I made them, I’m just showing a you a picture – no list of ingredients necessary – you can figure them out just from the image.  Again, I’m no cook, certainly not a chef, so I’m not going to belabor the point with cooking instructions!  However if you need a recipe, each box does provide one on the back in case you are feeling particularly industrious.
