Dear Vegan Outreach Mentee,
Thank you for your interest in our Vegan Mentor Program, which will provide valuable guidance to you as you transition to a more compassionate diet.
Many people aspire to be vegetarian or vegan but need support in making the transition. You may not know where to start in replacing animal foods in your diet, and need help finding satisfying foods. You might not know anyone else who shares your concern for animals, and being able to talk to someone who does can go a long way in providing moral support.
Our volunteer mentors, most of whom are longtime vegans, want to share their experiences with others. They stand ready to help you with anything from navigating the grocery store aisles and deciding what delicious dish to bring to your work potluck, to figuring out how to talk to your child’s teacher about dietary requirements, and much more. Mentoring can consist of conversations over email or social media, phone calls, or even in-person meetings.
You will be matched to a mentor based on several criteria, including your goals and location when possible. Once a match has been made, Vegan Outreach will provide the mentor and mentee with an email introduction and each other’s contact information. We encourage matches to contact each other as soon as possible.
At times mentors and mentees might have different personalities or goals for the experience; this is perfectly acceptable and does not reflect negatively on either party. If at any point, either the mentor or mentee feels it is not a good match, they should contact Vegan Outreach to ask for a change. From time to time, Vegan Outreach will be contacting you to see how the program is going and make sure you’re getting what you want out of it.
Making the transition to a plant-based diet can be fun and easy, especially with someone there to provide support and encouragement. We are so grateful for all you’re doing for the animals.
If you have any questions, please contact Jean Bettanny at [email protected].
Sincerely,
Jack Norris, RD President, Vegan Outreach |
